The Bachelor degree in Theater aims to deepen the mastery of the mechanisms inherent to the theatrical creation, fundamentally in the territory of Acting. During the training course, of university level, and in the scope of the projects to be developed, the student has the opportunity to contact with the professional structures of the theatrical field. This cycle of studies proposes an interdisciplinary professional formation, in a contemporary perspective. Due to the broad nature of its study plan, the multiplicity of professional exits is favored in accordance with the acquired learning.

General Regime


RECIPIENTS

Students with Portuguese High School graduation diploma or legally equivalent degree, which performed the exams according with the national entrance examinations list required by ESAP, with a grade equal or superior to 95 points (0 to 200 scale).

Through the general regime, it can only apply:

  1. Portuguese citizens; 
  2. Citizens of an European Union State Member;
  3. Citizens, even if not of an European Union State Member, who reside in Portugal for over a course of two uninterrupted years, on 31st August of the application year, as well as children which live with them, not counting for this purpose the time of residence for education.

ACCESS CONDITIONS

Through the general regime, students can only apply to ESAP’s Bachelor Degrees and Integrated Master which hold, cumulatively, the following conditions:

  1. Have successfully completed high school graduation (or legally equivalent degree);
  2. On the application year or the two previous years (2019, 2018, 2017), have performed the national entrance examinations demanded for the bachelor or integrated master to which one is applying to.
  3. Obtained the minimal grade required in the national entrance examinations (95 points) and on the application grade (95 points).

 

Replacement of national entrance examinations by foreign examinations.

For students with non Portuguese degrees legally equivalent to the Portuguese high school diploma, the national entrance examinations mentioned above can be replaced by final examinations of disciplines of these courses, in accordance with article 20-A of Decree-Law no. 296-A / 98, dated September 25, updated by Decree-Law no. 90/2008, of May 30, which cumulatively meet the following conditions:

  1. Having national scope;
  2. Being about disciplines homologous of the national entrance examinations

It's considered homologous the disciplines which, even though with different denominations, have identical level and purposes and similar syllabus to the entrance examinations that are aimed to be replaced. For further details, namely consultation of the correspondence table of foreign disciplines considered homologous in the entrance exams demanded for access to ESAP’s study cycles, as well as application process, it is recommended to visit the Directorate-General for Higher Education website.

Foreign examinations may be used within identical deadlines to the ones determined for high school final examinations – the year of its completion and the two following years.

The equivalencies attribution to foreign secondary studies completion diploma’s to a Portuguese high school course falls within the Directorate-General for Higher Education jurisdiction.

Over 23 Years Old


RECIPIENTS

It can apply to the evaluation exams for abbility to attend higher education courses regarding candidates over 23 years old, those who are over 23 years old or who complete it until 31 st December of the year previous to the completion of the exams, as long as, cumulatively, gathering the following conditions:

  1. Do not hold access qualifications for the intended course, being the access qualitification to have a high school graudation diploma or equivalent and the approval on national entrance examinations which are acess exams for the intended course, in the year of the application or the two immediatly previous years. 
  2. Not having Portuguese or other European Union State Member citizenship, those who reside legally in Portugal uninterrupted for over two years, on 31st August of the year which they intend to attend a higher education course. The candidates that don't gather this condition and have a high school graduation diploma or equivalente on their origin country, must apply exclusively through the Special Call for Access and Admission of International Students

Holders of Other Higher Education Courses


RECIPIENTS

This special call includes:

  1. Holders of bachelor degree (3rd year pre Bologna degree), Bachelor graduate (Bologna degree), master or PhD;
  2. Holders of extinguished courses of Primary Teaching School, Kindergarden Teachers and General Nursing who prove, simultaneously, to be holders of a high school course, complementary of high school or within the 10th/11th school year.

 

Due to International Student's Status, amended and republished by the Decree Law n.º 62/2018, of 6 August, it can only apply to Other Higher Education Courses' Holders:

  1. Citizens of an European Union State Member;
  2. Relatives of Portuguese national citizens or nationals of a Member State of the European Union, irrespective of their nationality;
  3. Citizens, even if not of an European Union State Member, who reside in Portugal for over a course of two uninterrupted years, on 1st of January of the application year, as well as children which live with them, not counting for this purpose the time of residence for education.
  4. Those who, under an international treaty signed between the Portuguese State and the State of their citizenship, can benefit from a legal status granting them similar rights and obligations to a Portuguese citizen, on the 1st of January of the year in which they intend to enter in higher education studies;
  5. Those who request entrance in higher education through special call of access and entrance under Decree Law n.º 393/-A/99, 2 October, as amended by Decree Law n.º 272/2009, 1 October;
  6. It isn't considered international student, foreign students which attend ESAP within an international mobility program for the completion of part of study cycle of a foreign higher education institution with an exchange agreement protocol with ESAP established for that purpose. 
  7. The international students shall maintain their status until the end of the course in which they are initially enrolled or in transit, with the exception of those who in the meanwhile acquire the nationality of a Member State of the European Union, in which case the international student status is no longer applicable.

 

Therefore, candidates who don't reunite the above mentioned conditions can only apply to ESAP through International Students's Access and Entrance Special Call or through Change of Course/Institution regime.

International Student


RECIPIENTS

It is considered International Students those who don't have Portuguese citizenship, with the following exceptions:

  1. Citizens of an European Union State Member;

ACCESS CONDITIONS

It can apply to ESAP's bachelor degrees and integrated masters students under the following conditions: 

  1. Holders of qualitification which, on the respective foreign country, gives them the right to apply and access the said country's higher education;
  2. Holders of a portuguese high school graduation diploma or legally equivalent qualification.

The titularity's validation mentioned on subparagraph 1) must be made by the competent entity of the qualifition's completion country.

The equivalency's qualification mentioned on subparagraph 2) is defined by Ordinance n.º 224/2006, 8 March and Ordinance n.º 699/2006, 12 July.

For entrance in bachelor degrees and integrated master, international students must cumulatively show:

  1. To have academic qualification in the expertise areas required for the study cycles which they are applying to;
  2. To have acknowledged the Portuguese language's level necessary for the attendace of the study cycle;

 

The demonstration of academic qualifications in the expertise area required for the study cycle to which they are applying to, can be made through the following:

 

  1. When the applicant has a portuguese high school graduation diploma, the demonstration is made through approval on the entrance examinations defined to the study cycle in the entrance year.
  2. For candidates coming from foreign teaching systems in which is applicable the article 20.º -A, Decree Law n.º 296 - A/98, 25 September, the demonstration is based on the homology of the entrance examinations defined to the study cycle. Candidates may also present the approval on the entrance examinations defined to the study cycle.
  3. For candidates who've attended the brazilian teaching system and who are holders of a middle school diploma, the demonstration is made through the replacement of national entrance examinations by ENEM - National Secondary Education Examination - according with the access and entrance conditions and respective weighting specified in Annex I.
  4. In all the others cases, the applicant may perform national entrance examinations as self-proposed students or perform, on ESAP, equivalent exams to the entrance examinations for the study cycle to which they are applying to.
  5. National entrance examinations, referred on the previous subparagraph, are made in Portugal or in a Portuguese school abroad. The candidate must make the inscription in the same conditions and within the deadlines legally defined and disclosed by Directorate-General for Higher Education.
  6. The grades used for application must be obtained in the calender year or the three previous calender years previous to the said application.

 

Portuguese language knowledges

 

 1. Frequency of all study cycles demands an independent mastery of Portuguese language (B2 level, according to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

 2. For the special access call's purposes, it is considered to have enough mastery of the Portuguese language all international students who:

- Are citizens of country with Portuguese offiical language;

- Have lived uninterruptedly in a country with Portuguese official language for the last two years;

- Have attended high school in Portuguese;

- Are holders of Intermediate Diploma of Portuguese as a Foreign Language, B2 level;

- Are holders of other B2 certificates of Portuguese language issued by a Portuguese higher education instituition.

3. International Students not included in the previous subparagraphs must commit, at the time of application, to attend an annual Portuguese course, as to fulfill the requeriment foreseen in subparagraph one and must be necessarily renewed until level B2 is obtained regarding the Portuguese language mastery. Independently of the academic course, international students can only enroll on the 2nd curricular year of the study cycles by presenting certificate of acquisition of the competences mentioned on subparagraph one.

 

SERIATION CRITERIA

  1. The candidates placement for each study cycle is made by descending order of its application's final grade.
  2. Application's final grade matches the sum of the partial grades obtained by each candidate, on onde hand by the conditions refered on subparagraph n.º 1, article 3 and, on the other hand, by the exams foreseen on article 5 of ESAP's International Student's Regulation, being given, respectively, 65% and 35% ponderation.
  3. Having in mind the existence of several scales, all grades must be given within 0 to 200 scale.
  4. Anytime two or more candidates are tied in the last place, it will be created additional vacancies.

6. Intermediate Diploma of Portuguese as a Foreign Language, B2 level, or other B2 certificate of Portuguese language mastery issued by a Portuguese higher education institution (only applicable when the candidate doesn't fulfill one of the requirements on n.º 2, article 6º of ESAP's International Student's Regulation).

7. In the subparagraph b), n.º 2, article n.º 6 of ESAP's International Student's Regulation case, a document issued by the competent services of the State where the student lived.

Reentrance


Reentrance is the act by which a student, after interrupting the studies in a higher education institution/course, enrolls in the same institution and course or in a course which has replaced it. 

RECIPIENTS

 

It can apply for reentrance students who cumulatively:

  1. Were enrolled and registered in the Institution/Course or in an Institution/Course which has preceeded them;   
  2. Weren't registered in the Institution/Course  in the academic year previous to the one regarding the reentrance application.

Institution/Course Change


Institution/Course Change is applied when a student enrolls and/registers in a  different institution/course from the one(s) in which, in previous academic years, he has registered. Change of institution/course may take place with or without enrollment interruption and inscription in a higher education institution.

RECIPIENTS

 

1. It can apply to institution/course change students who:

i) Have been enrolled and registered in another institution/course without having completed it; 

ii) Have performed high school national exams correspondent to the access examinations determined for the general regime's institution/course, in that year;

iii) In those exams, have the minimal grade demanded by ESAP, in that year, within the entrance general regime.

2. The mentioned national exams may have been made in any given academic year.

3. The institution/course change also applies to students who have been enrolled and registered in foreign higer education institutions, in a course defined by its country as being higher education, without having completed it.

4. It isn't allowed institution/course change in professional technical course of higher education level, or foreign course of corresponding level, for bachelor degrees or integrated masters study cycles. 

5. It isn't allowed institution/course change on the academic year in which the student has been placed in a higher education institution/course within any access and entrance regime and which have been enrolled and registered. 

6. Students who've entered higher education within the international students' special call, regulated by Decree Law n.º 36/2014, maintain the international student statute until the end of the sutdy cycle in which they were initially registered or to which they go to. The international students who've acquired an European Union State Member citizenship constitute an exception (the application's ending of interntional students' statute in consequence of the previously stated takes effect in the following academic year of the citizenship's acquisition)

 

Students holding non-Portuguese high school graduation diplomas

 

For students holding non-Portuguese courses legally equivalent to Portuguese high school graduation diploma, who haven't got approval in the determined entrance exams, the said examinations can be replaced, under the article 20º-A of Decree Law 296-A/98, 25 September, by final exams of disciplines of those courses which gather cumulatively the following conditions:

1. Having national scope;

2. Refer to homologous disciplines of entrance examinations.

It's considered homologous the disciplines which, even though with different denominations, have identical level and purposes and similar syllabus to the entrance examinations that are aimed to be replaced. For further details, namely consultation of the correspondence table of foreign disciplines considered homologous in the entrance examinations demanded for access to ESAP’s study cycles,  it is recommended to visit the Directorate-General for Higher Education website. Examinations considered homologous may have been performed in any given academic year.

Students who've entered Higher Education through special entrance calls

 

1. For students who've entered higher education through exams especially suitable, destined to evalute the ability to attend over 23 years old higher education, approval in national high school entrance examinations corresponding to entrance exams can be replaced, by requeriment, for evaluation tests destined to acces this call, performed in the same or other higher education instituition. This exam will be validate by the Entrance Applications' Juri and it must fulfill the necessary exam for the ESAP's course. 

2. For international students, approval in portuguese high school national entrance examinations corresponding to entrance exams can be replaced, by requeriment, by the verification of the access and entrance conditions of the original institution of the international students' special call. This verification will be validate by the Entrance Applications' Juri and it must fulfill the necessary exam for the ESAP's course. 

3. Students who've entered higher education through the special call for holders of a technological specialization diploma, regulated by Decree Law n.º 113/2014, 16 July, as amended by Decree Law n.º 63/2016, 13 september, may enter through this regime as long as they've performed high school national entrance examinations corresponding to access exams demanded for the cycle studies through the general regime and in those exams have obtained a grade not under the minimal grade determined by ESAP.  

4. Students who've entered higher education through the speciall call for holders of a higher technical professional diploma, regulated Decree Law n.º 113/2014, 16 July, as amended by Decree Law n.º 63/2016, 13 september, may enter through this regime as long as they've performed high school national entrance examinations corresponding to access exams demanded for the cycle studies through the general regime and in those exams have obtained a grade not under the minimal grade determined by ESAP.

2. Certificate of the last registration the national or foreign higher education course;

3. Detailed certificate of the completed curricular units, in national or foreign higher education course, with its grades, its curricular year and corresponding ECTS;

4. Official document issued by the origin School which proves that the course is recognized as higher education by the country's legislation (just applicable to students coming from foreign higher education institutions);

5. One of the following documents:

i) Approval certificate of the Portuguese higher education national entrance examination(s) corresponding to the access exam(s) determined for access to the course for which they are applying (ENES document);

ii) Approval certificate of national final examinations, of the homologous foreighigh school school disciplines of the entrance exams determined for access to the course for which they are applying

iii) Approval certificate, issued by the origin institution, of the students' entrance through exams destined to evalute the ability to attend over 23 years old higher education, with information of the syllabus evaluated and the exams grades;

iv) Certificate, issued by the origin institution, of the students' entrance under the international students speciall call, with information about the verification of the said instituion's access and entrance conditions.

6. Certificate(s) of syllabus, workload and ECTS credits (if applicable) of the completed curricular units;

7. Origin's course study plan;

8. ID card.

Notice:

1. Foreign students must submit the required documents, in case it aren't issued in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish,  translated by a certified translater and authenticated by the Embassy or Portuguese Consulate of the degree's home country or by Hague's Convention Apostille.

2. Documents referred in n.º 6 and n.º 7 are only mandatory if the student requires crediting.

Special Calls


RECIPIENTS

Special calls for application to Higher Education are considered those that are destined to students with specific qualifications and personal conditions.

Existing regimes:

1. Portuguese diplomatic mission abroad;

2. Portuguese scholarship holders abroad and government officials abroad;

3. Portuguese Armed Forces' Officers;

4. National scholarship holders in Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa;

5. Accredited diplomatic mission in Portugal;

6. High Performance Sports Practitioners;

7. Timor-Leste's Nationals and sons of naturals

Outside Students


RECIPIENTS

It isn't required to be a higher education student to attend ESAP's curricular units.

Under the article 46º-A of  Decree Law 65/2018. 16 August,  it was established the possibility of registration in isolated curricular units, by any interested person, with the guarantee, in case of approval, of certification and crediting, if and when entering the course which includes it.

ACCESS CONDITIONS

According to article 46.º - A, regarding registration in curricular units:

  1. The Teaching Institutions provide registration in the curricular units which they teach;
  2. Registration can be made by registered students in a higher education course or any other interested person;
  3. Registration can be made with or without being subjected to evaluation;
  4. When enrollment is subject to assessment, each student can enroll in a maximum of 60 credits accumulated throughout their academic career;
  5. The curricular units in which the student enrolls in the regime subject to evaluation and in which it obtains approval:

a) Are object of certification;

b) Are mandatorily credited, within the limits determined in subparagraph c), n.º 1, article 45.º, if its holder has or comes to acquire the status of student of a higher education study cycle;

c) Are included in Diploma Supplement that may be issued.

6. For registration under this article's terms are due the amounts determined, in proportion, by the education establishment's legally and statutorily competent body.

Therefore, under Decree Law n.º 65/2018, the student can enroll in a maximum of 60 credits accumulated during his / her academic course, under the same conditions as the other students. These curricular units will be crediting (equivalence) to an integrated master or bachelor degree when they obtain normal student status through one of the possible entry regimes:

  • General regime
  • Over 23 years old

DEADLINES

Requeriment for registration as outside student can be submitted at any time during the academic year, as long as the Board of Directors decides there are integration conditions for the applicants in the respective courses.

Holders of Higher Technical Professional Diploma


RECIPIENTS

This special call includes students who, cumulatively: 

1. Are holders of higher technical professional diploma within the education and traning areas which provides access to the intended study cycle [Annex I: CNAEF Map - National Categorization of Education and Traning Areas Map (Mapa de Classificação Nacional das Áreas de Educação e Formação)]

2. Are holders of access exams (high school national entrance examinations) demanded for the intended study cycle;

3. Obtain in the said exams a grade not less than 95 points in a 0 to 200 scale

 

SERIATION CRITERIA

1. Final grade obtained in the higher technical professional diploma;

2. Grades of the high school national entrance examinations required as access exams.

Therefore, it is advised that, when formalizing the application, it is attached to the certificate the respective syllabus of the higher technical professional course.
