Bachelor degree Course, of university level, in compliance with the Bologna Process, according to the Dispatch n. º 9896/2016, published in the ‘Diário da República’, 2nd series, n. º 148, of August 3, 2016.

The Cinema and Audiovisual bachelor degree presents itself as an open educational path, with the cinematographic process explored in the scope of the artistic practice and in the production of experimental works. With this bachelor degree, of universitary level, it is intended to train qualified filmmakers and / or specialists in the areas transversal to the practice of cinema. The syllabus is broad enough to allow a multiplicity of professional exits in accordance with the acquired learning, namely: artist, film or television director and / or directing professional , production, camera operation, editing sound and post production.

The student also acquires competences that allow him to continue to the research path.

SATH | Autonomous Section of Theory and History

The Autonomous Section of Theory and History is an academic structure coordinating the scientific areas of Theory and Criticism of Art, Theory and Criticism of Architecture, Theater Theory and Criticism, History of Art, History of Architecture and Social Sciences and their respective curricular units , which develops a close scientific-pedagogical articulation with the courses that integrate it.

Among other responsibilities, SATH is responsible for organizing and developing research in its scientific areas, promoting research groups and projects, in addition to individual research, as well as supporting the activities and initiatives of faculty and researchers in the field of research.

Currently, SATH shares with the other departments of ESAP a research policy that goes through two types of actions:

1. The encouragement of the formation of research teams led by professors from SATH, through the funding of short-term collective research projects, ie ESAP Projects.

2. Raising students' awareness of the research, through the provision of Credit Research Internships (ECI) carried out in the context of ongoing projects.

DTC | Department of Theatre and Cinema

The Department of Theater and Cinema - DTC is an academic structure coordinating the scientific areas of Theater and Cinema, and respective curricular units, promoting the articulation between the two courses.

One of the competencies of the DTC is to foster research through the development of individual or group projects whose research focuses on Theater, Cinema, or on the artistic intersection between these two areas, or adjacent areas. These projects also aim to stimulate research among ESAP students.

The DTC has, for the time being, a research project in the area of Cinema to be carried out through the financing of collective research projects, of short duration - ESAP Projects:

CEAA | Arnaldo Araújo Study Center

Arnaldo Araújo Research Center (CEAA) of the Escola Superior Artística do Porto is a research unit recognized by FCT (uID 4041) that develops research in the area of Artistic Studies, concretely in the territories of Theory, Criticism and History.

At present, CEAA is organized into three research groups and one research line

The Film Studies Group is directed by António Preto and conducts research in three major thematic areas, directed by lecturers of the Cinema and Audiovisual degree:

3. History of Cinema
