The Cinema and Audiovisual bachelor degree presents itself as an open educational path, with the cinematographic process explored in the scope of the artistic practice and in the production of experimental works. With this bachelor degree, of universitary level,  it is intended to train qualified filmmakers and / or specialists in the areas transversal to the practice of cinema. The syllabus is broad enough to allow a multiplicity of professional exits in accordance with the acquired learning, namely: artist, film or television director and / or directing professional , production, camera operation, editing sound and post production.

The student also acquires competences that allow him to continue to the research path.

Filmmaker graduated from La Femis, Paris. Bachelor by the University of Paris III, Sorbonne. Was selected for Cannes Film Festival - Cinéfondation section, with Gaia (2004) and Cinema du Réel, with Circa Me (2002). Made films in collaboration, such as A Cultura do Capital (2003) or Traveling 70'-76 '(2007) and the video installation A Colher (2010), presented in the context of the projects All my independent women and A Question of Gender. Was assistant of Paulo Rocha, Ricardo Leite and Saguenail and assistant assembly of Boris Lehman. Director, screenwriter, actor and director of photography (São João da Madeira, 1978). He studied mathematics and worked in photography and theater. He was the curator of the Luso-Brazilian Film Festival of Santa Maria da Feira between 2001 and 2008. Founded the photography and film lab Átomo47 and the film production company Bando à Parte. He directed the short films "Arca d'Água" (2009), "Casa" (2010) and "O Coveiro" (2012). "Captivity" (2012) received the DocAlliance award at Cannes (2013). "Kako sam se Zaljubio u Evu Ras" (2016) received the Special Mention in the international competition of FIDMarseille. In 2017 he directed the short film Num Globo de Neve (IndieLisboa 2017). He received his PhD in film directing from film.factory in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2016). Drvo - The Tree (2018), his latest feature film, had its world premiere at Berlinale Forum 2018, with commercial release in Portuguese cinemas (2018) and in France (May 2021). His most recent medium-length film "Pátio do Carrasco" premiered in Competition at the Rotterdam Film Festival, co-produced by Rua Escura, a film cooperative he founded in 2020 in Porto. His work had been the subject of retrospectives at Batalha Centro de Cinema (February, Porto, 2023), Doc's Kingdom Seminar (Arcos de Valdevez, 2019) and Luso-Brazilian Film Festival (Santa Maria da Feira, 2012). In 2023, was edited the book "O Cinema de André Gil Mata: Alguma Luz na Escuridão" (André Gil Mata's Cinema: Some Light in the Darkness) was edited about his cinematographic work, first edition of Batalha Centro de Cinema.

More than 40 years of work in television as a producer, director and programmer at RTP, beeing envolved in various television projects in Portugal. Master in Audiovisual Production and Directing, holder of the Title of Specialist in Media and Audiovisual Production, and the Television Operator course at RTP, in Lisbon. For the last 12 years he has taught cinema in higher education, in areas such as screenplay, directing and editing, among others (ESMAE, ESMAD, ESAP). He currently teaches at ESAP's Master's and Degree in Cinema and Audiovisual (Cinema Script, Film Analysis and Post-production). Eduarda Neves is a professor of contemporary art theory and criticism, an area in which she has published various articles and books. She is also an independent curator. Her research and curatorial activity interweaves the fields of art, philosophy and politics. Since February 2019 she has collaborated on the journal “Contemporânea”. Her most recent books are: O Auto-retrato. Fotografia e Subjectivação. Lisboa: Ed. Palimpsesto | Ceaa, 2016 [shortlisted for the Pen Club award in the category of Essay, 2017] and in 2020, Nem-Isto-Nem-Aquilo. In 2021, 35 Degrees Celsius. NR graduated in Sculpture at FBAUP/School of Fine Arts, University of Porto (1999), and holds an MFA in New Genres from the San Francisco Art Institute (2008). In 2011 he began a PhD research in Art at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and completed it at FBAUP/School of Fine Arts, University of Porto. Since 1999 he has been developing his work in the field of visual arts, individually and in collaboration with other artists, in areas such as drawing, installation, sculpture, performance, sound, video and curatorial practices. He has held 17 solo exhibitions, 5 of which in collaboration with fellow artists, and participated in over 60 group shows in Portugal, Brazil, Spain, USA, Norway, UK, Russia and Germany. He was the curator of 7 exhibitions, and since 2016 he is the programmer of the Portuguese video art and moving image screening project Playlist, held in Porto, with 42 shows produced and presented so far. Together with Isabel Ribeiro and Susana Chiocca, he was responsible for the Recursos Humanos / Human Resources programme, a series of talks dedicated to the public presentation and discussion of works and creation processes by artists, architects, designers and others. His work is represented in institutional collections such as CAV - Centro de Artes Visuais and the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as in several private collections. In 2002 he was resident artist at Triangle France, Marseille, and in 2004 he was one of the nominees for the EDP Young Artists award in Portugal. Between 2006 and 2008 he was the recipient of a Fulbright scholarship, and the Louise Woods Memorial scholarship. He was also awarded a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Art Research grant between 2011 and 2015. From 2000 to 2005 he collaborated with the education program of the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art. He was teaching assistant in the New Genres course at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2007, and in 2011 began teaching at the BFA in Photography program, ESAP - Porto Art School, where he leads a seminar on Portuguese video art since 2017. He lives and works in Porto and is represented by Graça Brandão gallery, Lisbon.

He completed his master's degree in Audiovisual Communication (2016) from Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo, with the dissertation: "O cinema dos espaços fechados: Padrões, temáticas e estilísticas da mise-en-scène em espaços de clausura". Later, he obtained a postgraduate diploma in Screenwriting (2019) from Escola Superior de Media, Artes e Design, and his PhD in Communication Sciences: Cinema and Television (2022) from Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas of NOVA University of Lisbon, with the thesis "Resgates da câmara: Intimidade e unidade de espaço no cinema de ficção narrativo" on the relation between intimacy and unity of place in fiction film. He was also involved in short-film projects, mainly his short-film "Clowns" (2015), winner of the Sophia Student Award, and as Manuel Mozos' assistant director in "The Glory of Filmmaking in Portugal" (2015). He is a professor of Film Aesthetics at ESAP and a researcher at CEAA.

Curriculum

Tiago Vieira da Silva has a bachelor in Film and Audiovisual at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto. He is a PhD researcher in Communication Sciences (UMinho), currently developing his dissertation "Rethinking national identity from the April revolution to the present, through Portuguese cinema", funded by FCT. His areas of interest are the film studies, cultural studies and Portuguese language literatures. He was part of the international project "Memories, Cultures and Identities: How the past weights on the present day intercultural relations between Mozambique and Portugal" (FCT/Aga Khan, 2018-2022) and the national project "Mapping and Critical Senses of the Photographic Archive of the Companhia de Diamantes de Angola (Diamang)" (2020). He teaches History of Portuguese Cinema and Film Theory at Escola Superior Artística do Porto.
