STUDY CYCLE'S GOALS

The Directing - Cinema and Television master aims for the students to acquire the following knowledge and competences:

a) Provide an in-depth knowledge of techniques, languages, genres, concepts, theoretical orientations, methodologies and sources of research in the field Directing, both of Cinema and Television;

b) Enable an in-depth approach to the scientific area of Cinema and Audiovisual;

c) To master knowledge and operational skills in the broad field of the various processes related to Directing - Cinema and Television, necessary for the preparation of a dissertation or a project work according to standards of academic quality, and professional performance based on knowledge and experimentation in the field, in the public and private spheres;

d) Acquire skills that enable lifelong learning and decision-making autonomy regarding cinema and audiovisual policies;

e) To master knowledge in Directing - Cinema and Television, which allows to acquire the necessary skills to a qualitative intervention in the areas of directing cinema and television shows, research, teaching, criticism and programming.

APPLICATION CONDITIONS

It can apply to the Directing - Film and Television master:

a) Candidates holding a certificate of completion of a bachelor degree obtained in a Higher Education Institution of subscribing countries of the Declaration of Bologna and others considered to be related, taking into account its curricular structure;

b) Holders of a national or foreign higher academic degree that is recognized as satisfying the objectives of tha graduate degree by ESAP's statutorily competent scientific body;

c) Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized by ESAP Scientific Council as being able to complete this cycle of studies.

SERIATION CRITERIA

Candidates who meet the academic and curricular conditions stated in the 'Application Conditions', will be selected and listed, taking into account the following criteria:

a) Academic curriculum:

I) Bachelors degree ranking;

II) Bachelors degree, preferably in the areas of Cinema, Television and Audiovisual as well as others considered suitable

b) Scientific curriculum

c) Professional curriculum

d) Possible interview as complementary criterion 

 

Densification of evaluation criteria:

1. The curricular analysis (AC) will be made taking into account the following parameters:

a) Academic curriculum (CA) – weighting the academic qualifications required, as follows:

I) with a final bachelors degree (or equivalent) grade: 10-13 points ....................12 points (0 to 20 scale)

II) with a final bachelors degree (or equivalent) grade: 14-16 points ....................15 points (0 to 20 scale)

III) with a final bachelors degree (or equivalent) grade: 17-20 points ....................18 points (0 to 20 scale)

 

b) Scientific Curriculum (CC) – taking into account the applicants' participation in congresses, seminars, research projects, number of articles published, prizes and similar elements, on a scale of 0 to 20 points, as long as these are activities in the scientific area of the study cycle, in following terms:

I) Very little relevant curriculum:10 points

II) Slightly relevant curriculum:12 points

III) Relevant curriculum:14 points

IV) Very relevant curriculum:16 points

V) Extremely relevant curriculum:18 points

 

c) Professional Curriculum (CP) – taking into account, on a scale of 0 to 20 points, the duration and nature of the professional duties exercised, as long as they are they are qualified by employment contract or on an independent basis, in the scientific area of the study cycle, as follows:

I) Very little relevant curriculum:10 points

II) Slightly relevant curriculum:12 points

III) Relevant curriculum:14 points

IV) Very relevant curriculum:16 points

V) Extremely relevant curriculum:18 points

 

2. In addition to the curricular assessment, an individual interview (EI) may be held whenever the assessment of the academic, scientific and professional curriculum is not sufficiently distinctive of the position of different applicants, taking into account the following competences and capacities:

I) Ability to express and communicate

II) Motivation for entrance in the study cycle

The classification of each member will result from the arithmetic average of the scores assigned, on a scale of 0 to 20 points, for each of the two assessment factors I) and II).

 

3. Final classification will be scored by using the following formula,  on a scale of 0 to 20 points: AC = (CA*X+CC+CP)/3.

Being:

AC = Curricular analysis

CA = Academic curriculum

CC = Scientific curriculum

CP = Professional curriculum

X's  weighting factor assumes one of the following: 

X = 1.3 for applicants with a bachelor degree in Cinema, Television and Audiovisual.

X = 1.0 for applicants with a bachelor degree in all other areas considered suitable

 

4. If it is stated the need to perform an individual assessment (EI), the final classification's formula is adapted as follows: CF = (AC+EI)/2

Being:

CF = Final classification

AC = Curricular analysis (Academic+scientific+professional curricula)

EI = Individual assessment

 

5. Scores resulting from the calculation of averages shall be expressed to the hundredths, by rounding, in each selection method and also in the final classification, by default or by excess, according to whether the value of the thousandths is less than or equal to five.

Notice:

The document mentioned in n.º 2, in case it isn't issued in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish, must always be translated by a certified translater and authenticated by the Embassy or Portuguese Consulate of the degree's home country or by Hague's Convention Apostille.
