The Department of Visual Arts (DAV) is an academic structure coordinating the scientific areas of Drawing (DES), Photography (FOT), Printing (IMP), Fine Arts (AP), Design (DGN), Information and Communication Technologies ICT), Multimedia (MM) and respective groups of curricular units. In terms of operation, this Department is structured in four Sections: (1) Drawing; (2) Photography; (3) Fine Arts and Printing; (4) Design and Multimedia.

Anselmo Canha. Degree in Communication Design - Graphic Art (University of Porto, 1984). Master in Image Design (University of Porto, 2008), PhD in Design (University of Porto, 2018). As a researcher, he is dedicated to the relationships between independent contexts of creation - namely non-professional and experimental - and social transformation. In his master dissertation he studied the Stop Shopping Center. His PhD thesis elected a community radio - Radio Manobras - as the center of a constellation of cases in the city of Porto. He co-coordinated “Manobras no Porto”, a project dedicated to think and act through creative action in the Historic Center of Porto. He has been a professional designer since 1984, having developed work mainly in the editorial, corporate identity and signage fields, the latter being his current professional specialization.

From 1986 to 1989 he attended the Porto Superior Art School where he completed his Bachelor in Photography and from 2002 to 2003 he graduated in Art and Communication - Photography. Attends since 2014/15 the University of Porto Lusófona PhD in Media Arts Works in photography since 1990 in the most varied areas. He has been working as a visual artist since 1991. He continually investigates many aspects of the Visual Arts, both practical and theoretical. More recent works we highlight in 2014 - "Memories" Exhibition Integrated in the 38th FITEI, Photography and Image Editing of the Project Some Reasons for a Non-Demissionary Art, supported by DGARTES-Secretariat of State for Culture, Photography and production of the exhibition SUFOCO of the artist Silvestre Pestana, Espaço Mira Porto .2015 - Photography and Image Editing of the Correspondence Project He has taught several curricular units at ESAP since 1990/1991.

Completed a Master Degree on Illustration and Animation and graduated on Graphic Design. He has been working as a professor in several higher education entities (IPCA, IPP and IPB) and tutoring Workshops and Masterclasses with IPCA, Cinanima, Casa da Animação, Casa da Juv. Famalicão and individually. Professionally he works as a digital animator, graphic designer, visual effects artist and sound designer. He has some animations transmitted on FOX, RTP2 and TELE5 TV Channels and already produced and implemented audiovisual content in digital games. It stands out the collaboration with Portuguese Football Federation, ComicCon, "Pedro e o Gato", MagikBee, Original Features and Animgram. He also dedicates himself to research, constantly publishing and presenting scientific articles on international conferences. He currently attends a PhD in Communication Sciences at the University of Minho.

Bachelor of Fine Arts / Painting by FBAUP (1981). PhD from the University of Vigo (Department of Sculpture, 2014), with the thesis "Art and Memory: Developments and derivations about the concept of memory and its contribution to artistic practice". He was a Fellow of the Foundation for Science and Technology (2009-2012). Since 1982, he has been teaching at ESAP's Higher Arts Courses, of which he was one of the founders, having held various positions. As a plastic artist, he began exhibiting in 1978: he held 5 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 150 collectives, in Portugal and abroad, being represented in some public and private collections. Between 1976 and 1981 he worked in Animation Cinema, including two films subsidized by the Portuguese Cinema Institute, produced by Cinematógrafo - collective of intervention, of which he was one of the founders.

Diogo Tudela (Porto, 1987) graduated in Sound and Image in 2009 and Master in Digital Arts in 2011, both by School of Arts of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, where worked as a researcher at CITAR - Center for Research in Science and Technology. Technology, and where taught the course of Typography and Communication Design in the Postgraduate Degree of Digital Design, between 2012 and 2014. Currently teaches in Multimedia Art degree at ISMAI, at the Postgraduate Degree of Printmaking at FBAUP, and  in the bachelor degree of Fine Arts and Intermedia at ESAP. In 2015  was finalist of the New Bank Revelation Prize of  Serralves Foundation, and selected to join the official selection of BAFTA Qualifying ASFF. In 2017  presented the play "Parametric Solar" at the CAAA, Guimarães, through a grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

Researcher and curator in Contemporary Art. Living between Valencia, Spain and Porto, Portugal. PhD by the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He is an assistant professor at ESAP, Escola Superior Artística do Porto. He is an Integrated Researcher at the Arnaldo Araújo Research Center, in the group of Research in Art and Critical Studies. Nuno Faleiro Rodrigues is a lecturer at ESAP where he teaches in Photography-Visual Arts and Post-Graduate Studies in Contemporary Art. In 2009 he completed his PhD at Middlesex University, London under the guidance of Professor Peter Osborne and Professor Éric Alliez. He has taught Critical Studies at Norwich University of the Arts and Metropolitan Cardiff University, UK. Between 2007 and 2009, he presented a series of seminars in art theory at Ar.Co, Lisbon, about art and repetition in the postwar period and art and aesthetics in the philosophy of Gilles Deleuze. Paulo Jorge da Silva Fernandes is Multimedia Developer, Photographer and Professor of University Higher Education since 2002. He holds a BA in Photography (2001) and a BA in Multimedia Art and Communication from ESAP (2002). Attends the doctoral program in Communication Sciences, University of Minho, with research focused on interactive media and social semiotics. He has published articles in the areas of Teaching of Visual Arts, Multimedia and New Media, following international conferences, and also participated as a responsible and technical collaborator in the organization and scientific committee of scientific events such as XV AECA, CONFIA'13 / 14 / 15/16, SEGAH'14, Videogames'14. Since 2002 he has been responsible for several multimedia projects, namely international projects of virtual reality photography, multimedia products such as educational games, desktop and web applications, as well as various websites developed in flash technologies, HTML5, CSS, Javascript, PHP, NodeJS, among others. Since the beginning of 2012, he has signed with Gato Sério (gatoserio.com), with whom he has already made several Multimedia and Interaction projects, including the Bread and Wine Museum of Favaios, Motion Graphics for the Cupertino Foundation miranda, web products for the Hospital Center of Oporto, Museum of the Wine of S. João da Pesqueira (Honorable Mention of Best National Museum 2015) among other clients of National Renewal. It publishes numerous curricular units of the scientific areas of Multimedia, Photography, Information Technology, Marketing and Audio-Visual in Higher Education Institutions since 2002.
