Since 2005 she holds the post of Curator Archive Gallery at the Whitechapel Gallery, London where she has developed an innovative programme of curating related to the creative use of archives as a curatorial resource. She holds a PhD in Curating, Goldsmiths College, London with the thesis Curating Archives, Archiving Curating (2009). She has lectured extensively since 1991 until today. Nayia is the Project Manager of NEON Curatorial Exchange & Award, an initiative which fosters professional relations between emerging British and Greek curators, funded by NEON Organisation and hosted by the Whitechapel Gallery.
Recent exhibitions at the Whitechapel Gallery are: Aspen Magazine: 1965-1971 (2012), Black Eyes & Lemonade: Curating Popular Art (2013), Supporting Artists: ACME’s first decade (2013 –2014), Stephen Willats: Concerning Our Present Way of Living (2014), Imprint 93. Forthcoming project: The Guerrilla Girls, in October 2016.
Curating Archives
Será debatido o arquivo como recurso relevante para práticas artísticas e de curadoria. Analisaremos algumas das razões pelas quais os arquivos se transformaram numa plataforma importante para a produção criativa recorrendo a exemplos de práticas artísticas e de curadoria que abordam o arquivo. Concluiremos o seminário com a introdução das ideias e metodologias que utilizo na minha própria prática como curadora da Whitechapel Gallery.
I will discuss archives as a relevant resource for artistic and curatorial practice and address some of the reasons why archives have become important platforms for creative production. References to early examples of curatorial and artistic practicesthat engage with archives will be mentioned concluding the seminarby introducing ideas and methodologies deployed in my own practice as a curator at the Whitechapel Gallery.
