Pedro Castanheira - cinematographer

Lisbon (1980). Post-graduated in German and Portuguese Philology at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, 2004) and a fellow at the Humboldt University in Berlin (2002). He attended the School of Theater and Cinema and the School of Photography AR.CO in Lisbon, obtaining a Master's degree in Photography Direction at the School of Cinema and Audiovisual in Madrid (ECAM, 2007). In 2007, he received the Kodak Film Spain Prize and was invited to work with the legendary cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond in the Masterclass of Cinematography in Budapest. Since then, he has diversified his filmography as a director of photography in national and international film projects, and documentary, advertising, theatre and television productions, namely in Spain, Germany, United Kingdom, Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Palestine, Lebanon, Israel , Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Portugal. In 2012, after working on the film "Sondag", produced by the company Zentropa de Lars Von Trier, Castanheira received the Best Photography Award of the Year at the Alto Vicentino Film Festival (Italy) with the film "Old Losers" (Spain) - being selected in the same year for the Talent Campus of the Berlin International Film Festival. He has made five documentary films on theater: "Viriato Rey", text by Osório de Castro, staged by João Mota, premiered at the International Festival of Classical Theater in Mérida (2006); "El Jardín de los Cerezos" (2013) and "After" (2014), both shot and premiered in Santiago, Chile, at the Teatro Camino Auditorium; "Rogério de Carvalho - Um Nómada Fiel", premiered at the International Theater Festival of Almada (2015) and "I'm going to visit pastors!" About Ruy Duarte de Carvalho, with Inês Ponte and Manuel Wiborg (2016), the design of the exhibition Sob a Delicate Commitment Zone for the Ephemeral Landscapes Cycle (BUALA organization, Galeria Quadrum 2015). Castanheira created the image of the artistic project “O Atelier Verde”, by Alexandra do Carmo (2018). Recently, he has concluded two film projects: "Palácio", about the Assembly of the Republic of Rui Pires (production TERRATREME) and "Daniel e Daniela" by journalist Sofia Pinto Coelho filmed in Guinea Bissau, Cape Verde and Sao Tomé and Príncipe (Ukbar Filmes Production). In addition to being a director of photography, he was a professor and co-founder of the ParaleloB Film School in Madrid. Collaborates with the Municipal Theater of Almada.
