Sociology of Art and its Problematics: a Brief Outlook

 

Emanuel Cameira is a sociologist whose research focus on publishing and the sociology of the book. He has a 1st Degree in Sociology (ISCTE-IUL), a Post-Graduation in Curatorial Studies, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon and holds a PhD in Sociology (Sociology of Culture, Communication and Life Styles), University of Lisbon.  Currently he teaches in the Masters in Communication, Culture and Information Technologies and Entrepreneurship, and Internet and Cultural Studies (ISCTE-IUL). As a researcher, he was involved in the Survey of the Book (2007-2009), Observatory of Cultural Activities, and Digital Reading ─ Transformations in the Reading Incentives and Book Institutions (2011-2013). In 2010, Cameira was the co-curator of the exhibition João César Monteiro, assim e não assado (Cardaes Convent, Lisbon). More recently, he is one of the organisers of the Lisbon Graphic Fair ─ Independent Publishing and Artists Books.

In 2018 he was awarded the Victor de Sá Prize in Contemporary History (Minho University).
